TOWN TRANSPORTATION

Car Hire

The car rental business is very lucrative in Mallorca, and this island probably has the most affordable car rental rates in the world (prices start from £12 or US$16 per day). There are plenty of car hire companies on the island, and booking may be done on-line or upon arrival at the airport where a lot of representatives have their own areas to receive you. Here are some reminders about driving in Mallorca:

· Driving is on the right hand side.

· The speed limit on the motorway is 120km/h, on main roads 100km/h and in urban areas 60km/h.

· There are severe penalties for drink driving, so don’t even think about it.

· In town centers, parking lots marked in blue can only be used with a pay and display ticket, while the green mark means for residents only.

· Petrol stations are often closed on Sundays and public holidays, so anticipate this occurrence and gas up as much as possible.

Bus

There’s a well-organized and reasonably priced bus system connects Palma to all the main towns. Payment is made upon entering the bus. The main station is in Palma's Placa d'Esanya.

Rail

Trains are a good opportunity to sit back and relax while being a spectator to the beautiful sceneries outside the window. This mode of transport lets you arrive at your particular destination on time with the treat of feeding your eyes with the wonders of the places you pass by. In Mallorca, there are two railway lines connecting Palma to Inca and Soller. The two stations in Palma are almost joined together, and are in close proximity to Placa d'Espanya. Fast trains to Inca take 35 minutes and leave at least hourly throughout the day (first train is at 6.00AM). There is also an aged wooden train that journeys across the mountains to Soller. It only takes an hour and it is definitely an experience worth taking.

Taxi

Taxicabs abound in the Palma area as well as in the airport. The smaller districts of Mallorca usually have taxi ranks.
