My Mallorca Travel Experience
by Julia from UK
We stayed in Majorca’s buzzing Cala Millor for two weeks during the summer – somewhere I would very much recommend as a base to explore what the rest of the island has to offer. Cala Millor is great in the fact it has safe and clean beaches (ideal for families) and plenty to offer with respect to nightlife. It’s a resort which is extremely popular with tourists – you are able to find all the comforts of home here but with the added bonus of being ideally placed for making trips.
We visited Deia – a complete contrast to Cala Millor but nevertheless a great day out. Deia is perfect for experiencing the “real” Mallorca. It is beautifully placed, set amongst the island’s green valleys and, as described by our tour guide, has a really interesting background – revolving around some very illustrious visitors – from Robert Graves to Richard Branson!!
We also made the trip to Palma – very worthwhile! It’s on the South coast (only 60km drive from our Cala Millor hotel) and there’s so much to see that it would have been impossible to do it all in the one trip – my advice would be to read up about what exactly it is you want to do first in order to make the most of your stay here. We made time to see the cathedral and the castle of Bellver – now a very well presented museum. Although we were there at the wrong time, the castle also plays host to a variety of concerts – something which I imagine would be a spectacular show!
The weather was ideal – not too hot that we were limited in what we could do and not too cold in that we could still enjoy days and the beach.
Mallorca really is a great destination – it is so varied and so whatever your mood, you will be sure to find something to interest you. Bearing this in mind, the fact that it is so varied meant that we spent a lot of time reading the guides in the hotel whilst there – time we could have been enjoying ourselves on the beach! My advice would be to do your research at home and so prepare yourself for a holiday exactly how you would like.
