The Stunning Bellver Castle in Mallorca Spain

The castle is surrounded with the Bellver Woods and because of this; it became the largest green area of the Palma de Mallorca. The castle is incredibly fascinating because it offers astounding views of the bay and the city. It was King Jaume II who constructed the castle in between the 1309 and 1311. The castle was built as the military citadel, having the gothic style fortress. Historically, the Bellver Castle has been used for incarceration and for defenses rather than use as the royal residence. Aside from that the Castle as well has always been linked to several conflicts and the island has always been engaged.

The impressive castle has a circular layout and was constructed from the Mallorcan mares stone. Bellver Castle has four circular towers the tallest amongst the tower is Tower of Homage or Torre de l’Homenage which is divided into four rooms. Since it has been used as the incarceration center, one of the famous prisoners of this castle was Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos—known as Carlos IV’s old minister. Gaspar was imprisoned at the castle from 1802 eventually after three years in 1811 before his death. During the time he was imprisoned here, he wrote some parts of his works in the castle as his documents about his life as a prisoner.
