The castle is incredibly fascinating because it offers astounding views of the bay and the city. It was King Jaume II who constructed the castle in between the 1309 and 1311. Since it has been used as the incarceration center, one of the famous prisoners of this castle was Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos—known as Carlos IV’s old minister. Gaspar was imprisoned at the castle from 1802 eventually after three years in 1811 before his death. During the time he was imprisoned here, he wrote some parts of his works in the castle as his documents about his life as a prisoner.
